usibelli coal mine, inc. (ucm) is a third generation family owned business founded in 1943 by emil usibelli and the only operational coal mine in alaska. ucm produces approximately 1.5 million tons per year of subbituminous c coal delivered to six interior alaska power plants and exports to south korea and south america. emil usibelli started the company with one bulldozer and a used logging truck to deliver 10,000 tons per year to ladd army airfield.
