And considering that the scientists will do their jobs aiming large range of readers as well they are already paid for the development of their studies by private or public institutions, seems like ok if you read books from libgen and do the reference Imagine that you could borrow the book from one friend or the library school

Well, I have just received one paper from 1 author That's good I am grateful It took 2 days compared to 3 hours on Reddit and since then, I've written 2 rich pages of literature review So had I waited till now, I'd have started writing my thesis tomorrow so that would make it a 3 days loss That's just for 1 paper

The library had a journals-only subscription, while the student membership material was mostly from conferences As such, they were actually mostly complementary Additionally, student members of ACM can get free downloads of much of Microsoft's software (via DreamSpark , formerly known as MSDN Academic Alliance )

The owner of the database is clearly in violation of the law, but users of the database are generally not That said, I can imagine some authors would be upset to see a published link to a pirated version of their book Why not just go to the library and confirm that the printed version matches the online version

As universities here are usually owned by the state, their libraries are usually public Terms for getting a library card vary (from everyone to you need to be either associated with the university or have your main residence in the respective Land) I found that libraries of research institutes often allow you to go there as guest reader
- How possible is it to do mathematical research outside academia?
@DavidKetcheson - I agree with your last point I e if you've done the work necessary to publish (in decent journals), then you've probably done the hard part of getting a PhD So you may as well be enrolled on a part time degree and get some credit (and yes, affiliation and access to seminars and a library) –
