I have a Rheem Marathon MR85245 85 gallon water heater 240 volt feed on 30 amp breaker with10 gauge wire Under “Element Watts“ on the manufacturer’s placard, it reads “4500” for upper, lower, maximum, but it has OEM Rheem 3800 watt elements (stamped 240V 3800W) which is what I’d expect if there was a 12 gauge feed

I spoke to Rheem after being on hold for 90 minutes If anyone finds this post years from now here is what I have tracked down Rheem Heat trap nipples, AP12992-3 these are not anything like a check valve as others have implied There is only one nipple that is an OEM replacement They do not have a specific direction they flow in, no clor code or arrow, so the one unit they sell is suppose to

Our Rheem 50 gallon water heater is leaking from the bottom and I'm about to replace it The options are another Rheem from Home Depot, an AO Smtih branded model from Lowe's or a Reliance "self-cleaning" unit (also AO smith I think) from Pride Home center
