Yes the CMA account is what you want if you want a similar product to a traditional bank checking account There is no separate “checking account” just check writing capability which you can have on the CMA or practically any brokerage account at Fidelity The big advantage for the CMA is you get a debit card with fees reimbursed automatically at practically any ATM Some value the fdic

- Setting up Fidelity to Transfer between Spouse and security
Sharing a joint Fidelity CMA with Mom just for this purpose would be a lot easier, and a lot faster, but I'm generally averse to managing an additional account and associated beneficiaries just for this rarely used purpose
