Here's the problem, the stihl setting gage seems to set the air gap too tight, like 0 004" measured between the ignition module arms and the flywheel magnets using a feeler gage set It seems as though the center coil pick up on the ignition module has a wider air gap Now my question, what is the proper way to measure an ignition module air gap?

It's SOP to inspect gap new spark plugs to your desired gap before installing them They could have been dropped, thereby changing the gap, etc NEVER assume they are gapped correctly out of the box How does the manufacturer know what YOU are going to gap them at?

TH350 Stock converter to a BluePrint 350 w BP Flexplate (new) I have done the research and just wanted to confirm what I have read online with the knowledge base here When I go to bolt the TC and the flywheel together, there is a gap of 210 as measured with feeler gauges (see pic below)

Rule of thumb for a naturally aspirated engine 0 004" gap per inch of bore so in your case you should shoot for 0 016-0 017" (4 155 x 0 004) ideally If your gap is 0 032" you probably don't have the correct rings for your 402 (4 125" + 0 030) Just my guess and the reason I always get file fit rings! I use this piston ring grinder from ABS

Following the instructions in the workshop manual, I set the gap on the lower two metal "pegs" that face the magnets However, this left the top peg with a huge gap and I couldn't get a spark The old coil was a Swedish made part (SEM) and all three pegs had more or less the same gap once the lower two were set It was marked 544 04 70-03

What is your opinion on checking the end gap on the rings I you order a set for a lets say a 350 bored 030 over should they be perfect? when I checked the end gap on my set of perfect circle rings they were tight enough that the filler gauge (setting for a street car) didnt go through the

The plug gap is a little small for that mild of a motor I would run @ 0 045"-0 050" In fact when I first started running MSD ignitions It was a 6al box with a pro-billet dist an a 350 built up not much more than yours, and I ran a 0 045" plug gap for 3 yrs I think the example from MSD below is a little wide in my opinion

Things that determine resistance is the plug wire conductor (metal conducts better than carbon impregnated fiberglass strands), the spark gap, and the resistance in the plug (the R in the designation of an AC-delco plug denotes an internal air gap to prevent power from bleeding off too soon)
