Hi, I have seen many posts about the use of American Express cards in Italy, but most of these are dated information Can anyone tell me what the current status is? I know MC Visa are more popular, but will I have trouble using AmEx at restaurants or gift shops in Venice Florence Rome? Maybe

I bought a Car Rental Insurance upgrade on my Travel Insurance last year only to read today that Ireland is excluded I know that Delta American Express Platinum card does NOT exclude Ireland I don't know about other AmEx cards And Visa cards are all different Your other choice is to pay the high CDW rates from the Rental Company

If the funds are held in reserve, I'll bet they are earning interest for American Express The real profit centre for AE over the years wasn't so much the fees as the short-term interest it could collect in the delay between taking in the customer's money and point of redemption
- Checked bag free on Delta but what if Im booking with Chase?
I'm scouting out some flights using Chase travel points, and the cheaper fares charge a fee for a checked bag I don't know if I will check a bag but was wondering if I would still have to pay Delta (which would be the originating flight), since I get checked bags for free because of my Delta SkyMiles card Thanks!

This is discussed on this site under the TRAVEL TIPS, money section American Express is American - it has never been accepted in Europe as far as I know Sorry you had those issues The Rick Steves EUROPE THROUGH THE BACK DOOR book goes over many of these issues and it is a great read - we reread it every time we go over
